We’re really excited that Season Two of Salon de la Vie is starting soon and if you’ve not heard about it yet, we are going to be exploring and celebrating the lives of six amazing Black women. We’re over the moon that our long time friend and collaborator Kudzanayi Chiwawa will be joining us for each Salon and bringing her ideas, responses and reflections to the conversations. Just check out her take on Strange Fruit – it’s astonishing.
We wrote recently about the fact that this Season, we will start to accept donations via the Ko-fi platform should you normally pay for theatre and events, and now feel able and willing to offer them.
Today, we want to tell you that we plan to donate half of whatever you donate through Season Two to an absolutely amazing organisation – Imkaan, a Black feminist organisation dedicated to addressing violence against Black and minoritised women and girls with whom we offer sincere support and solidarity.
You, like us, have probably seen the news that domestic violence and femicide have increased dramatically – and globally – during lockdown. How can you stay home when home is the least safe place? We know that the challenges experienced by Black and minoritsed women in accessing support are significant at the best of times – and these are not the best of times.
It’s hard to feel we can help in the face of such danger. We don’t know how much support we will be able to give but – as the old saying goes, it is better to light a candle than curse the darkness. We’re celebrating Blackness and Black women – and we’re lighting what we hope will be a bright, shining candle.
If you are able to support our work and help us support Imkaan, you can donate via Ko-fi here.
