Barbara Mason, Liskeard

Audio Player

Barbara Mason fondly recalls cherished moments from her youth, including her first dance at the age of 14 and the magical surprise of receiving a pale blue evening dress she’d admired in a shop window, waiting for her on Christmas Day. She reminisces about her father’s cider-making and his deliveries of poultry, cream, and butter to Looe, as well as witnessing a royal visit to Liskeard, where she saw the King, Queen, and Princess Margaret.

She also shares a heart-warming story about a pet lamb she raised, which became so humanised it would walk beside her like a companion and even sit on a kitchen chair—so tame it couldn’t return to life with the flock.
