Every month we profile a business we love, as our Business of the Month. Often these are smaller businesses, frequently women owned. This month we are profiling a larger business who makes it their business to share stories that might otherwise be forgotten – The History Press.
The History Press is the UK’s largest dedicated history publisher. They publish across a broad range of topics and periods, covering the exceptional people, places and events that have shaped our lives today. On their website they describe themselves as ‘The Destination For History’. Key theme areas include Women’s History, Irish History, and the Titanic. They also produce a limited range of Fine Press, recently including 250 copies only of Letters From Titanic.
The Women’s History section draws us in, particularly the subsections on Suffragettes and Entertaining Women which includes a biography of Marilyn Monroe who features in one of our Salon de la Vie episodes.
The History Press are the publishers of Out of The Darkness: Greenham Voices 1981-2000 by Kate Kerrow and our own Artistic Director Rebecca Mordan. The History Press say that they, “…are dedicated to keeping history alive through publishing content which tells us about interesting places, important events and intriguing people – revealing little-known stories to new audiences.” This is the driving idea behind our Greenham Women Everywhere project too – we wanted to ensure these vital stories, this living history, is captured and preserved for generations to come.
