“Everything about the show was a highlight.”
Last month, we took our exciting new show ‘Kernewek Keskesow Cabaret’ to venues across Cornwall, celebrating the extraordinary contribution Cornish women made to the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp.
With six shows taking place between 24th and 30th April, we treated audiences from Bude to Penzance to evenings of theatre and music, performed in both Cornish and English, telling the stories of Cornish women and women based in Cornwall and their experiences at the peace camp.
Upon arrival, audiences were treated to a performance from the talented women’s singing group The Revellers. The cabaret combined first-hand testimony with songs to create powerful and uplifting nights of performance. With projected lyrics enabling audiences to follow along and join in, the event delivered evenings of entertainment and celebration, as well as opportunities to reflect on what the Greenham Women achieved over forty years ago.
Before the cabaret, audiences were invited to step into the spirit of peaceful protest at a free drop-in exhibition and printmaking workshop.
Thank you so much to all of our amazing artists, the venues who welcomed us (Helston Old Chapel, Bude Library, St Agnes Library, Redwing Gallery, IntoBodmin, Sterts Arts and Environmental Centre) and the audiences who came along. We’d also like to give a huge thank you to Arts Council England who funded this tour – we couldn’t have done this without your support!
Here’s some feedback from audience members:
“I didn’t know what to expect when I booked the tickets. It’s been a fantastic show with very talented performers.”
“I really enjoyed the audience participation in the singing of Greenham songs as well as the beautiful singing of the performers.”
“I’d heard about Greenham, but I didn’t know anything about the women. I found the show very educational and emotional. It’s inspired me to go and do some Greenham research.”
“Becca’s delivery was very inclusive and very engaging. She skillfully included those with an extensive knowledge of Greenham and those newer to it. She was both informative and entertaining.”
