Meet Sarah, a fantastic Cornwall based Counsellor

In addition to our regular Business of the Month feature, this January, we’re also shining our female-focused business spotlight on another brilliant Cornish business, Dandelion Thoughts Counselling.

Dandelion Thoughts Counselling is Sarah Nield. We first met Sarah through her massage business and we were really impressed by her manner and communication. We’ve not used her counselling service but we’re fans of Sarah and are confident that this new venture for her safe pair of hands will deliver as much good as her past projects have.

The latest figures from the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) annual Public Perceptions Survey show that nearly a third of UK adults have sought help from a counsellor or psychotherapist in the past 12 months, and three quarters of those say it was a helpful experience.

Here’s what Sarah has to say about her work and practice.

“I trained to be a counsellor for the same reason as many of my colleagues on the course – I’d benefitted myself and thought maybe this was a way to ‘give something back’ or help others.  I’m practicing now and I find it is so much more, working with individuals as discovery and experience their process, building a relationship within which they can start to make sense of things is a massively humbling experience.  I feel privileged to be allowed into that space and find myself constantly challenged, uplifted and again, humbled by the work.

Many people approach counselling because they have started to feel ‘stuck’ or unhappy, when nothing seems to have changed, maybe they have difficulty making decisions or have increased or new anxiety.  Life may not seem as fulfilling as it once did.  Noticing these changes is often the first step on the journey to counselling.  I believe we all have the resources within ourselves to find our way through but at the start it can seem very daunting.  The therapeutic space created during counselling sessions can allow us to feel safe to explore, express and understand our feelings without fear of judgement – it is a powerful process.

My practice, Dandelion Thoughts Counselling, expresses how I am drawn to the notion of letting go and, in a more existentialist way, that we all go on to become other things, like dandelion seeds away with the breeze.  I welcome adults of all ages, from all backgrounds and settings to my practice and aim to create a space which enables all my clients to explore whatever is going on for them.

Go well.”
