A firm favourite of Company Manager Vanessa, we’re loving Colossive Press and we thought you would to!
Colossive Press describe themselves as a ‘a two-person, two-cat press based in Penge, South London’.
Along with limited edition books (the ten copies of this one sold out SUPER fast) zines and comics, they produce absolutely stunning ‘cartographies’ using a pop-out A6-to-A4 format based on the Turkish map fold, and, er, lots of stuff about the Croydon Spaceport. (Spoiler, it never was. But Collosive co-founder Tom has clearly had a wonderfully zany time imagining what could have been.)
Among the zines we love are Women’s Work by Julian Payne, which explores the (predictably overlooked) central role women played in the domestication of plants, the evolution of textiles, pottery and more; In a Rage by Beatty Hallas, which includes a snippet of an interview from our sister project Greenham Women Everywhere, and Flying Down by Hatiye Garip which includes a QR code for a multi sensory experience. Gorgeous!
Rooted in the belief that ‘Whatever your story is, it’s worth telling’, they collaborate with creators including cartoonists, fine artists, poets, writers and photographers to bring an unpredictable range of visual practice into a hand-folded treat. There’s a pinballing, freewheeling energy and richness to the diversity of subjects they share, and the tactile nature of the cartographies is incredibly appealing. They unfold like a lotus flower, delivering a little bit of information and delight each time.
They don’t know we’re writing this, and we have no connection to them – but we hope you enjoy their whimsical creations as much as we are. Or maybe you’ll be published by them one day?
