Remembering the 1981 Greenham March

In August 1981, a group of women, angered by the decision to site US cruise missiles on UK common land, organised a protest march. Over ten days, they marched 113 miles from Cardiff to Greenham Common in Berkshire. Here they set up what became known as the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp.

To mark the 40th anniversary of that legendary march and to honour the amazing women that protested for 19 years, we and our sister project Greenham Women Everywhere recreated the march from the 26th August – 3rd September 2021, closing with a weekend of events and celebrations held at Greenham Control Tower.

Check out the day-to-day details of the recreation and some fantastic photos here.

Three years on, we’re looking back on those two great events. From now until the 5th September keep a keen eye on the Greenham Women Everywhere socials for daily posts remembering the Greenham march – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.
