Sarah Annakin has worked with Scary Little Girls since 2015 as a performer, stage manager and workshop facilitator. Most recently she has been focussing on SLG’s schools programme, which she writes about, here.
Scary Little Girls have a wealth of experience leading drama-based workshops in schools, and our latest project is called ‘Love the Skin You’re In’. We were keen to address the impact that social media was having on young people, and last year we were ready to go with our new workshop to trial in schools… and then… lockdown!
Over the last few months I have been translating our in-school workshop into a digital format that can be accessed remotely online. This has proved to be far more challenging than I anticipated, but I am immensely proud of the first series.
With 2020 being a year of more screen time than ever before, young people need support and increased awareness of the benefits and pitfalls of everyday apps and platforms. Love the Skin You’re In supports critical thinking around social media and gives young people the tools to keep themselves safe online.
(It’s also brought me up to date with all the latest trends on TikTok but I have resisted getting involved just yet!)
We are hoping to have series one online very soon, and are already bouncing some ideas around for series two… anyone into gaming??!!
