Tina O’Connor, Wadebridge

Tina O’Connor recounts a fascinating research project about a Welsh carving known as the Coteal Carving. The story behind it is intriguing: the carver was an Englishman who, despite his origins, had a strong connection to Wales through his marriage to a Welsh woman. Additionally, he was best friends with Henry VII. Tina and her team took on the task of uncovering more about this enigmatic carving, which led them to St. George’s Chapel.

During their visit to St. George’s Chapel, Tina and her team were shown around by an archivist who took them to the grave of Henry VII. However, a little mishap occurred when they accidentally knocked the door shut, trapping them inside the chapel. In a bit of a panic, Tina’s colleague, Mike, had to pick the lock to escape. Despite the unusual incident, this experience led to an unexpected friendship with the archivist, who later became a close companion and guided them behind the scenes, revealing parts of the chapel that most visitors never get to see. This experience added a personal and adventurous touch to their research project.
