Sue Pearce shares a memory from her father’s childhood in the 1930’s, when he was raised on a farm. One day, a farm worker was using a device powered by a water wheel when it suddenly stopped working. The worker went to investigate and discovered that Sue’s dad had fallen into the water. He was saved by his wellington boot, which prevented him from being fully submerged. Shortly after the incident, Sue’s dad developed a white streak in his hair, a lasting mark from the scare.
