Stella Benson, Penzance

Stella Benson recounts her day trip to the Scilly Isles on July 29, 2004, with her sister Liz and niece Phoebe. They set out to capture photos missed on a previous trip, despite unpredictable weather. The day started misty but cleared as they approached St Mary’s, where Stella snapped pictures, including of a vintage tour bus, before a sudden downpour left her drenched on a boat to St Martin’s.

On St Martin’s, Stella explored the island, visiting a vineyard that only offered liqueurs, noting the absence of cars and spotting a driving school, which amused her. She continued her walk, passing a shoemaker, local cafes, and a shop stocked with beer and fruit. After returning to St Mary’s, Stella took in the scenic Sandy Bay before the smooth boat ride back.

Back in Penzance, Stella, Liz, and Phoebe enjoyed a Thai takeaway before watching a play in Penlee Park. Although the performances varied, Stella enjoyed the evening and reflected positively on the day, noting improvements at the Thai restaurant and her love for amateur dramatics. The entry ends with Stella eagerly anticipating future visits.
