Our fab friends at Creative Kernow have got four mixer events coming up in Liskeard, St Ives, Bude and Penryn from November to February!
These events are playful and informal happenings that provide participants with an opportunity to connect with other practitioners, have a go at a creative activity, and learn about the work of each host.
Digging Deep – Thursday 28th November, Liskeard
You are invited to The Workshed to join Dan Sturrock (Manager) and Lisa Townsend (Marketeer & Project Manager) in creating a seasonal centrepiece using natural materials foraged from The Workshed garden and surrounding area of The Old Cattle Market.
You will get the chance to spend time reflecting on what you have made using creative journal prompts, take a tour of The Workshed building and facilities, network and ask questions. They will gladly share their collective experiences of working in the Cornish creative sector and in social enterprise, and reflect on the community root system that they’ve been part of along the way. Mirror Deflections in Sculpture and Photography – Saturday 18th January, St Ives
Abigail Reynolds‘ kaleidoscope workshop will see you looking at the environment from new perspectives using mirrors, colour and light, collecting petals and seeds to make surprisingly beautiful reflected patterns, then using photography to capture some of the effects and images created.
This workshop comes from Abigail’s interest in other ways of looking beyond the present human body, as seen in her recent commission for Chatsworth House Anthronauts, a series of sculptures using mirror to deflect light and to deflect the look. Book here
Cut, Collage, Connect – Thursday 23rd January, Bude
Head to Bude at Temple Up Top for Cut, Collage, Connect – an inspiring card-making workshop led by local writer, life coach, and facilitator Poppy Wonnacott.
This hands-on creative session invites participants to craft unique cards using collage techniques with recycled magazines, paper, and mixed media. The workshop offers a chance to make a unique personal keepsake and foster connections among local artists, makers and creatives, sharing inspiration, dreams, direction and resilience. Book here
Small Acts of Walking (and Talking) – Saturday 8th February, Penryn
Small Acts will take participants on a playful and sociable walking tour of Penryn, visiting sites that have inspired the company’s relational arts practice – from a medieval proto-university to porous streets, pubs and productive community gardens.
Using their work as a catalyst for conversation and connection, Small Acts will offer participants a series of creative prompts and questions to explore with their walking companions, opening up informal discussion around each individuals practice and relationship to place. Book here
Each event is free for members of Creative Kernow Associates. There is a small fee of £5 for non-members, just to cover costs as the events are funded through membership fees.
