Anne Brierley is an artist at our Mayven Festival, here she says a little bit about herself and her work.
I’m Northern, made in Liverpool, and working class – went to art school in a time when there were grants to do so. I’m a mum, I like plants and I work with anyone who wants to make art. I make prints, paintings and other stuff. Sometimes I show work, sometimes I make public art for public places.
My work, which is both figurative and abstract combines techniques and processes from painting and printmaking, including text. The work is underpinned by a curiosity about how we see ourselves and each other; I am interested in collective histories and folk traditions. Thinking through making allows me to orientate and understand, to chew over contradictions and complexities.
