This month, Artistic Director Rebecca Mordan has been at Asthall Manor, Oxfordshire, for our sold out run of ‘In The Footsteps of The Mitfords’. Here, Becca shares her take on an Old Fashioned!
“It combines my love of the Old Fashioned, and the fact that we’re somewhere that is very old fashioned, with Jessica Mitford’s history of running off to Spain as the only socialist, and frankly the only hero in her family to fight against Franco.”
You will need:
- Orange chocolate
- An orange
- Bourbon (Woodford Reserve or Buffalo Trace)
- Sherry (a sweet one)
- Chocolate bitters (optional)
Here’s how Becca made it…
“I grated some orange chocolate over the top of about three ice cubes and then I squeezed a really big hunk of orange juice into the mixture, probably about two thirds bourbon and one third sherry.
Then I popped the rind of that squeezed orange into the glass so it really bumped up the orange-ness of it!
If you’ve got chocolate bitters to hand (which I didn’t), I’d drop a couple of them in as well.
And that is it – enjoy with one’s Mitford sister!”
