DESCRIPTION:Join us at Jupiter Gallery\, Newlyn for our Common Ground exhibition\, where you can find out all about this powerful movement that began 40 years ago and continues to influence today. \nHang out in our bender tent listening to a specially created soundscape of sounds and stories from the peace camp and interviews with Greenham Women. Chat to us about your memories of Greenham and hear ours. SUMMARY:Out of the Darkness: Greenham Voices with Rebecca Mordan
DESCRIPTION:As a child Rebecca Mordan visited Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp with her mother and was part of making history with 30\,000 other women and children at the Embrace the Base action 40 years ago.   \nAfter graduating Sheffield University and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School\, Rebecca worked as an actor\, director\, writer and producer and created award-winning feminist production hub Scary Little Girls and became a regular ‘rent-a-feminist’ talking head for TV and Radio\, including You and Yours\, 5 Live\, Woman’s Hour\, and Sky News. \nIn 2018 she started interviewing Greenham Women to celebrate their unique role in changing women’s roles nationally and internationally\, and she hasn’t stopped since! In 2021 she was chosen to be part of the BBC Writers Room\, wrote for the BBC’s Archive on Four\, Radio 4’s The UK Project and her first book was published\, Out of the Darkness: Greenham Voices. \nIn this talk at Leeds Lit Fest\, about her book and the process leading to it\, Rebecca will bring along Greenham Women who contributed their stories\, sing you some songs from the Greenham Song book and she and her guests will answer all your burning Greenham questions – go on ask them\, we dare you! \nGrab your tickets here!

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Hilldrop Community Centre in Islington for a day of stories\, songs and memories celebrating Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp! \nWhat’s On: \nThere will be an exhibition of photographs from Greenham Common\, a book reading\, craft activities\, face painting\, willow den building and the chance to share your own stories of resistance! \nWe will be joined by local organisations including Community Plan 4 Holloway\, St George Mutual Aid Group and Disability Action Islington who will be sharing information about their campaigns and how you can get involved. \nThe Museum of Youth Culture will be bringing their scanner\, so that you can add pictures from your youth to their archive. Remember to bring your personal photographs! \nRefreshments will be provided from 1pm\, including a free\, hot\, vegan soup. \nAccessibility: \nWe are taking steps to ensure barriers to participation at this event are removed. \nThere will be a BSL Interpreter and Audio Describer throughout the day to support anyone with visual/audio impairments to enjoy all the activities. This project shares information about the women who lived at the Greenham Women’s Peace Camp. \n The event is at Hilldrop Community Centre. There will be three event spaces: the Main Hall\, the Small Hall and the Garden. You can go in all the spaces.  \nWhen you arrive\, you will be welcomed by Hilldrop Community Centre Staff. They will ask you to sign in at the Registration Desk.  \nThey will ask you if you are happy to be in photographs whilst you are at the event. If you do not want your picture taken\, you will be given a coloured sticker to wear.  \nThese are the activities that will be there:  \nPop – Up Exhibition \n-A tent that you can sit inside on your own to listen to a soundscape on headphones. You can also sit next to the tent on a chair. \n-Photographs of Greenham Women. \nCraft Activities  \n-A willow building workshop in the garden with Jo. This will start at 2pm and finish at 4pm.  \n-Craft activities with Maz. You can spend as much time or as little time making these as you like.  \n-A face painter will be there. \nTalks  \n-Stalls with local organisations talking about their work. \n-Talks and songs about the Greenham Women’s Peace Camp. \n-People you can talk to about Greenham\, local events or anything else that you think about while you’re there! \nThe event is open from 12 noon until 5pm. You can drop in and leave at any time.  \nYou do not have to join in with any of the activities. You can just enjoy looking around.  \n All of the activities are free.  \nFood \nThere will be free teas\, coffees and cakes. There will be a free vegan and gluten free hot soup from 1pm.  \nThe Venue \nYou can find out how to get to Hilldrop by clicking here. \nAt the venue there is:  \n-1 unisex accessible toilet with baby changing facility in the reception lobby. \n-Separate male toilets with urinals and single stall cubicle in the main hall lobby.  \n-Separate female toilets with 2 stalls in the main hall lobby. \nThe venue is single storey\, step-free and wheelchair accessible.  \nSeated areas will be available.  \nThere will be a BSL interpreter & audio describer at the event. \nIf you feel like you need to be in a quiet space\, you can ask a member of staff who will take you to a quiet space.  \n If at any point\, you need urgent help\, have any problems\, or become lost\, you can contact Sharon Foster.
