SUMMARY:Common Ground: Greenham Exhibition and events
DESCRIPTION:Head along to NOTTINGHAM BROADWAY CINEMA from the 12th to 18th February to explore our Common Ground: Greenham Exhibition and join a week of exciting events! \nCommon Ground is a series of events bringing the legacy of Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp to local communities across the UK. It is part of a project created by Scary Little Girls in collaboration with Greenham Women Everywhere CIC to map the impact of the Peace Camp on the women who inhabited it and the communities they returned to. \nAbout Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp \nGreenham Common Women’s Peace Camp was an enduring and iconic protest spanning 19 years from 1981 – 2000. Whilst the occupation of the common began with the aim of forcing out the US nuclear warheads from Berkshire\, the protest became a focal point of feminist history and has left a legacy of women’s liberation around the world. \nBroadway will be hosting an exhibition where you can find out all about this powerful movement that began 40 years ago and continues to influence today. \nHang out in a bender tent listening to a specially created soundscape of sounds and stories from the peace camp and interviews with Greenham Women. Chat to public herstorians about your memories of Greenham and hear theirs. Look around the gallery at portrait photos of the Greenham Women today as well as new work by contemporary artists inspired by the Greenham Women Everywhere archive and current protest movements. \n\n\nWe’re finalising details for more events and experiences that draw on the spirit of Greenham including craftivism workshops\, book talks\, film screenings\, poetry\, music and performance – keep an eye out on our events page!

SUMMARY:QUEENAGERS – Porthtowan
DESCRIPTION:All hail the queen of cabaret events – a show comprising stand up\, music\, monologues and crafting that focuses on the funny side of the menopause and the uplifting freedom and positivity it can bring. Join us at Mount Pleasant Eco Park\, Porthtowan\, on Wednesday 13th March and laugh until the tears run down your legs – and feel reassured that it isn’t just you! \nHost\, peri-menopausal glamour-puss Bunny Morethan aka Rebecca Mordan (Glastonbury Festival compère\, Sky News ‘rent-a-feminist’ and BBC Writers Room) is here to learn all she can about what’s coming down the female line. In a perfect antidote to the doom and gloom surrounding the menopause\, Bunny will lead audiences on a be-sequined exploration of menopause and midlife. \nAnd following a sold out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, the outrageous stand up of Jennifer Kennedy – award-winning author of Martha Gets the Menopause\, Galloping Catastrophe: Musings of a Menopausal Woman and the hugely successful blog Is It Just Me? – brings you Menopausal Monologues. This is a collection of personal monologues breaking the silence around the menopause and giving voice to a variety of women’s (and some of their significant others’) real experiences. \nEnjoy these two acts held together with music and song exploring and celebrating middle aged women – or Queenagers! \nJoin us before the show for cakes and cocktails with our women-only play list and some radical crafting! \nThis event is being held at various venues across Cornwall from the 8th – 10th March and the 12th – 14th March. Keep an eye on our events page for more details! \nBuy your tickets here!

SUMMARY:Singing Workshop: The Voices of the Archetypes of Myth with Frankie Armstrong and Imogen Roux

Join Scary Little Girls for this industry event with ‘Owdyado Theatre! \nYou may have come across the recent Performing Arts Workers Survey\, which was circulated through emails and on Facebook. We have been heartened by the overwhelmingly positive and candid responses from 72 artists who completed the survey. While the survey underscores the abundance of ambition\, talent\, and passion in Cornwall’s performing arts community\, it also sheds light on the frustration\, anxiety\, and exhaustion that many artists face. \nWe held an event in November 2023 to begin addressing these challenges by coming together in person to brainstorm solutions for the issues causing these concerns. \nThrough small\, informal group discussions fuelled by tea and cake\, we will explore the issues identified from the survey (local funding\, gatekeeping\, artistic freedom\, valuing artists and disconnectedness)\, discuss progress made since our last event and plan next steps to affect positive change \nPlease note that this event is not open for the public and is exclusively for artists in Cornwall. \nOpen Door Day Part 2: Fling Open the Doors! 2.30-4pm(ish) \nFrom day one\, Trevow Helston wants to fling open the doors of our new creative space\, Helston Old Cemetery Chapel\, and welcome artists\, makers\, creative producers\, community project facilitators and cultural movers and shakers. Tell us what you need from this new space and hear about our plans so far. \nFrom 3.30pm you’re invited to bring a guest along and fill the space with conversation about what the chapel could do to support the Performance & Creative Industries in Cornwall. \nAt 4pm Scary Little Girls and Helston-based circus performers\, Cirk Hes\, will perform selected highlights from our Mayven Festival to give an idea of what the space can do! This will be followed by more shared dreaming and collaborative conversations about the future of Helston Old Cemetery Chapel. \nWe’d love to see you – you’re very welcome. \nRegister here!
