SUMMARY:The Mayven
DESCRIPTION:After multiple sell-out seasons in Cornwall\, the Mayven Festival hits London with a new regular event in association with Olive Gold\, Emer O Connor Storyteller and Echo Chamber. \nFor our inaugural night\, we will gather like witches around the flames of feminist festivity as winter draws near. Using songs and storytelling\, we will create an evening exploring women’s experiences ranging from the sinister to the sensual\, the divine to the downright daft. \nRebecca Mordan\, Artistic Director said: “We’ve all had such a brilliant time making and sharing work together for multiple sell-out shows in Cornwall\, and given that some of us live in London\, it felt like a natural next step to grow this community here and celebrate each other.” \nRadhika Aggarwal\, founder of Echo Chamber\, added: “It truly feels like we are creating something new together – something that holds the spirit and ethos of the original Mayven festivals\, and also bringing our own injection of energy and values. The London event will be a continuation of the brilliant work started in Cornwall.” \nOur aim is to host a quarterly Mayven event\, keeping the theme seasonal\, moving around London to connect with a wide variety of creative communities. We invite you to laugh and imbibe with us\, and create a sisterly solstice where all kind souls are welcome. SUMMARY:Open Doors Day for Arts Practitioners in Cornwall!
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Helston on May 18th for this exciting Open Door Day for Cornish arts professionals! \nThis Open Door Day will start with an industry round table event\, followed by a warm\, celebratory introduction to the Helston Old Cemetery Chapel. \nOpen Doors Day Part 1: Round Table event\, 1-2.30pm \nAre you an arts practitioner based in Cornwall? Want to discuss the issues that local artists face and make a change? Join Scary Little Girls for this industry event with ‘Owdyado Theatre! \nYou may have come across the recent Performing Arts Workers Survey\, which was circulated through emails and on Facebook. We have been heartened by the overwhelmingly positive and candid responses from 72 artists who completed the survey. While the survey underscores the abundance of ambition\, talent\, and passion in Cornwall’s performing arts community\, it also sheds light on the frustration\, anxiety\, and exhaustion that many artists face. \nWe held an event in November 2023 to begin addressing these challenges by coming together in person to brainstorm solutions for the issues causing these concerns. \nThrough small\, informal group discussions fuelled by tea and cake\, we will explore the issues identified from the survey (local funding\, gatekeeping\, artistic freedom\, valuing artists and disconnectedness)\, discuss progress made since our last event and plan next steps to affect positive change \nPlease note that this event is not open for the public and is exclusively for artists in Cornwall. \nOpen Door Day Part 2: Fling Open the Doors! 2.30-4pm(ish) \nFrom day one\, Trevow Helston wants to fling open the doors of our new creative space\, Helston Old Cemetery Chapel\, and welcome artists\, makers\, creative producers\, community project facilitators and cultural movers and shakers. Tell us what you need from this new space and hear about our plans so far. \nFrom 3.30pm you’re invited to bring a guest along and fill the space with conversation about what the chapel could do to support the Performance & Creative Industries in Cornwall. \nAt 4pm Scary Little Girls and Helston-based circus performers\, Cirk Hes\, will perform selected highlights from our Mayven Festival to give an idea of what the space can do! This will be followed by more shared dreaming and collaborative conversations about the future of Helston Old Cemetery Chapel. \nWe’d love to see you – you’re very welcome. \nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Singing Workshop: The Voices of the Archetypes of Myth with Frankie Armstrong and Imogen Roux
DESCRIPTION:This workshop provides an exciting way to expand and liberate vocal colour\, range and expressivity. \nIt uses movement\, imagination and storytelling to access a wide range of vocal qualities and expression through exploring figures that inhabit the world’s mythology\, such as The Huntress\, The Trickster\, The Child\, The Mother and The Crone. These archetypes are not a character or caricature but a particular aspect or quality in all of us. \nFrankie then guides you through a story (the journey) which gives you the opportunity to inhabit the larger-than-life world of the timeless figures of mythology and legend and to discover the vocal qualities that they evoke. \nTickets: £10\, £8 concessions or pay what you can.

SUMMARY:Artists only discussion with Owdyado Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Are you an art practitioner based in Cornwall? Want to discuss the issues that local artists face and make a change? Join us for this industry event with Owdyado Theatre! \nYou may have come across the recent Performing Arts Workers Survey\, which has been circulated through emails and on Facebook. \nOur goal is to begin addressing these challenges by coming together in person to brainstorm solutions for the issues causing these concerns. Consequently\, we would like to extend an invitation to you to join us for a practical discussion event at St Gluvias Village Hall in Penryn on Sunday\, November 26th\, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. \nDuring this event\, we will delve into five key issues identified from the survey: \n\nLocal funding (decision-making and distribution)\nCliquiness and Gatekeeping in Cornwall\nLimited artistic freedom\nThe value of artists in Cornwall\nGeographical and professional disconnectedness\n\nOur aim is to explore these issues through small\, informal group discussions to generate actionable starting points to effect positive change. \nWe also have plans to host similar events in 2024 in various areas across Cornwall. If you cannot attend the Penryn event\, please let us know which areas would be more convenient for you. \nFor those attending the Penryn event\, here are directions to the hall. \nPlease note that this event is not open for the public and is exclusively for artists in Cornwall. Please email us to book your place. \nWe look forward to the opportunity to engage in this crucial discussion and work together to improve the performing arts landscape in Cornwall! \nThanks to The Stage for sharing this campaign! \nRead the press release here. \n
