SUMMARY:Kernewek Keskesow Cabaret – IntoBodmin
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Shire House Suite for a cabaret night of songs and stories from Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp\, sharing tales of peaceful protest in Cornish and English! \nIn September 1981\, a group of women marched from Cardiff to RAF Greenham Common to protest the siting of American cruise missiles on British soil. What began as a ten-day walk became a 19-year occupation that changed the face of peaceful protest forever. Women from across Britain—including many from Cornwall—left their homes\, their jobs\, sometimes their families\, to live in benders and tents through every weather\, facing arrest\, eviction and hostility\, united by the belief that they could change the world. And they did. \nNow\, we invite you to an evening celebrating the extraordinary contribution Cornish women made to this iconic movement. \nJoin us for a cabaret night filled with songs and stories from Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp. Through verbatim theatre and music\, performers including Rebecca Mordan (Artistic Director of Scary Little Girls and co-founder of the Greenham Women Everywhere archive project) alongside Cornish bards Bec Applebee and Fiona O’Cleirigh will share the tales of the peace women—in both Cornish and English—creating an evening of rousing performances that honours their courage\, creativity and defiance. \nWhether you were there\, you remember watching it on the news\, or you’re discovering this remarkable piece of women’s history for the first time\, this is an evening to honour the women who proved that peaceful\, creative resistance can move the world. \nFind out more and grab your tickets here!

SUMMARY:'Out of the Darkness' and 'Sophia Duleep Singh' with Rebecca Mordan
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening at Books on the Rise with our Artistic Director Rebecca Mordan\, discussing the Greenham Common protest and suffragette Sophia Duleep Singh. \n\n\n\n\nAn event as part of Feminist Book Fortnight📚✨ \nCome and join us for a fascinating talk with Rebecca Mordan exploring her books ‘Out of the Darkness‘ and ‘Sophia Duleep Singh: Princess\, Suffragette\, Trailblazer’ as well the historical background to each\, including a Q+A and signing. \nAbout the books: \nOut of the Darkness \nIn 1981\, a group of women marched from Cardiff to the Greenham Common RAF base in Newbury to protest the siting of US nuclear missiles on British soil. \nGradually joined by women from all over the world\, they formed what became the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp. They stayed there for almost twenty years\, in what would become the largest\, most effective woman-led protest since the Suffrage campaign – and they would radicalise a generation. \nOut of the Darkness reunites the trailblazing women of Greenham to share their intimate recollections of the highs and lows of camp life\, explore how they organised\, and uncover the clever\, non-violent ways they challenged military\, police and cultural forces\, all in the name of peace. Whether freeing MoD geese or dancing on silos\, whether composing songs to put their cases across in court or kissing in the face of advancing police\, this is the story of the power of creativity\, wit and courage\, and the sisterhood the Greenham women created. \nToday\, as our planet suffers increased threats from nuclear proliferation and environmental strain\, this book celebrates the Greenham pioneers of peaceful protest and hopes to inspire a new generation of activists. \nSophia Duleep Singh: Princess\, Suffragette\, Trailblazer is a newly published play which has been performed to over 30\,000 students by Scary Little Girls Theatre Company and was published by our in-house publisher Aurora Metro Books in association with Historic Royal Palaces and their current exhibition at Kensington Palace ‘Last Princesses of Punjab.’ \nFind out more and grab your tickets here!
