SUMMARY:Common Ground: Greenham Exhibition and events
DESCRIPTION:Head along to NOTTINGHAM BROADWAY CINEMA from the 12th to 18th February to explore our Common Ground: Greenham Exhibition and join a week of exciting events! \nCommon Ground is a series of events bringing the legacy of Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp to local communities across the UK. It is part of a project created by Scary Little Girls in collaboration with Greenham Women Everywhere CIC to map the impact of the Peace Camp on the women who inhabited it and the communities they returned to. \nAbout Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp \nGreenham Common Women’s Peace Camp was an enduring and iconic protest spanning 19 years from 1981 – 2000. Whilst the occupation of the common began with the aim of forcing out the US nuclear warheads from Berkshire\, the protest became a focal point of feminist history and has left a legacy of women’s liberation around the world. \nBroadway will be hosting an exhibition where you can find out all about this powerful movement that began 40 years ago and continues to influence today. \nHang out in a bender tent listening to a specially created soundscape of sounds and stories from the peace camp and interviews with Greenham Women. Chat to public herstorians about your memories of Greenham and hear theirs. Look around the gallery at portrait photos of the Greenham Women today as well as new work by contemporary artists inspired by the Greenham Women Everywhere archive and current protest movements. \n\n\nWe’re finalising details for more events and experiences that draw on the spirit of Greenham including craftivism workshops\, book talks\, film screenings\, poetry\, music and performance – keep an eye out on our events page!

SUMMARY:Creative Commons
DESCRIPTION:This September\, the Corn Exchange Newbury and 101 Outdoor Arts present Creative Commons\, a remarkable weekend of free outdoor arts marking 25 years since Greenham Common was returned to public ownership. \nOver two vibrant days\, Greenham Common will be transformed into an open-air stage\, animated by performances and installations specially commissioned to honour the site’s rich and complex history. Audiences can expect a dynamic mix of aerial circus\, street theatre\, dance\, music and interactive artworks\, each offering a unique perspective on the Common’s journey from Cold War military base and site of an internationally renowned Women’s Peace Camp to flourishing wildlife sanctuary. Creative Commons promises a bold and imaginative celebration of place\, memory and creativity\, and an unmissable moment in Greenham’s continuing story. \nOur Artistic Director Rebecca Mordan will be giving three talks each day about her memories of her time at Greenham as a child\, our Greenham archive\, and a few songs with her ukulele! Becca will also be doing Q&A’s after each talk alongside a mini exhibition. Stay tuned for more details. \nSimon Chatterton\, 101 Outdoor Arts’ Strategic Lead said “Creative Commons is an an unmissable opportunity to celebrate a fascinating and unique piece of our history. Through a single location\, Greenham tells stories of environmental restoration and resilience\, of refugees fleeing to safety in the UK\, of battles over land ownership land of historic militarism and of popular protest in the face of an existential threat to the planet. We hope that through our programme thousands more people will be aware of the remarkable swords to ploughshares story of the Common and enjoy it for the remarkable place of natural beauty it now is.” \nFind out more about the event

SUMMARY:Kernewek Keskesow Cabaret – St Agnes Library
DESCRIPTION:Join us at St Agnes Library for a cabaret night of songs and stories from Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp\, sharing tales of peaceful protest in Cornish and English! \nIn September 1981\, a group of women marched from Cardiff to RAF Greenham Common to protest the siting of American cruise missiles on British soil. What began as a ten-day walk became a 19-year occupation that changed the face of peaceful protest forever. Women from across Britain—including many from Cornwall—left their homes\, their jobs\, sometimes their families\, to live in benders and tents through every weather\, facing arrest\, eviction and hostility\, united by the belief that they could change the world. And they did. \nNow\, we invite you to an evening celebrating the extraordinary contribution Cornish women made to this iconic movement. \nJoin us for a cabaret night filled with songs and stories from Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp. Through verbatim theatre and music\, performers including Rebecca Mordan (Artistic Director of Scary Little Girls and co-founder of the Greenham Women Everywhere archive project) alongside Cornish bards Bec Applebee and Fiona O’Cleirigh will share the tales of the peace women—in both Cornish and English—creating an evening of rousing performances that honours their courage\, creativity and defiance. \nWhether you were there\, you remember watching it on the news\, or you’re discovering this remarkable piece of women’s history for the first time\, this is an evening to honour the women who proved that peaceful\, creative resistance can move the world. \nIn branch paper tickets are available for £8 and online tickets through TicketSource are available for £8 plus 67p per ticket booking fee.
