SUMMARY:Common Ground: Open Studio and Photographic Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Just down the road from Ventnor Exchange you can join Greenham Woman and artist Bridget Boudewijn in her Isle of Wight studio to view her photographs of Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp giving a unique\, first hand insight into the camp. \nAbout Common Ground \nThis event was made possible thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is part of a project created by Scary Little Girls in collaboration with Greenham Women Everywhere CIC to map the impact of the peace camp on the women who inhabited it and the communities they returned to.  \nAbout Greenham Common Peace Camp \nGreenham Common Women’s Peace Camp was an enduring and iconic protest spanning 19 years from 1981 – 2000. Whilst the occupation of the common began with the aim of forcing out the US nuclear warheads from Berkshire\, the protest became a focal point of feminist history and has left a legacy of women’s liberation around the world. As women travelled to Greenham from across the UK\, local support hubs formed to ‘Carry Greenham Home’. \nThis event was made possible thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is part of a project created by Scary Little Girls in collaboration with Greenham Women Everywhere CIC to map the impact of the peace camp on the women who inhabited it and the communities they returned to.  \nInclusion and Accessibility \nCommon Ground strives to be an inclusive and welcoming space which celebrates diversity in all its forms. Our approach is to learn from and value each other’s lived experience.  \nIf you have any access needs you’d like to speak to us about please email us.

Hear songs and stories that bring the camp to life as we reflect on the impact of the camp 40 years on. \nGreenham child and author Rebecca Mordan will introduce her book ‘Out of the Darkness: Greenham Voices 1981 – 2000’  sharing the impact her early experiences of the camp have had on her life. There will be chance for you to ask any questions during a Greenham Q&A.  \nFollowing this there will be a screening of Carry Greenham Home as we transport you back to the early days of Greenham with Beeban Kidron and Amanda Richardson’s fly-on-the-wall masterpiece was shot whilst they lived at Greenham in 1982-83. \nAbout Common Ground \nCommon Ground is a series of events bringing the legacy of Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp to local communities across the UK. It is part of a project created by Scary Little Girls in collaboration with Greenham Women Everywhere CIC to map the impact of the Peace Camp on the women who inhabited it and the communities they returned to. This project has been made possible thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. \nAbout Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp \nGreenham Common Women’s Peace Camp was an enduring and iconic protest spanning 19 years from 1981 – 2000. Whilst the occupation of the common began with the aim of forcing out the US nuclear warheads from Berkshire\, the protest became a focal point of feminist history and has left a legacy of women’s liberation around the world. You can view our archive of oral histories\, photographs and ephemera from Greenham here. \nInclusion and Accessibility \nCommon Ground strives to be an inclusive and welcoming space which celebrates diversity in all its forms. Our approach is to learn from and value each other’s lived experience.  \nThis venue is wheelchair accessible.  \nIf you have any access needs you’d like to speak to us about please email us.

SUMMARY:Greenham Women's Peace camp Exhibition : Green Man Festival
DESCRIPTION:Are you heading to the Green Man Festival this summer? We are! We’ll be in Einstein’s Garden with our Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp exhibition from the 18th to 20th August – join us! \nThe Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp was an enduring and iconic protest spanning 19 years from 1981 – 2000. Whilst the occupation of the common began with the aim of forcing out the US nuclear warheads from Berkshire\, the protest became a focal point of feminist history and has left a legacy of women’s liberation around the world. \nJoin this immersive installation to weave webs\, build a bender\, make a banner or peace dove\, create music and sing songs. Join in discussions about climate change\, feminism\, nuclear weapons and the necessity for and challenges facing activism today. \nOur oral history team will also be there to record your memories of Greenham so that you can become part of our growing archive. \nContributors: \nRebecca Mordan \nRebecca is the creator of award-winning feminist production hub Scary Little Girls and spent several years of her childhood visiting Greenham. She recently co-wrote and presented The Greenham Effect for the BBC’s Archive on Four\, drawing on the 200 plus testimonials she helped gather from Greenham Women as part of the Greenham Women Everywhere project she co-founded.  This also led to the publication of her first book\, Out of the Darkness:  Greenham Voices drawing on these interviews. Join her to chat about your memories of Greenham and hear hers. \nSue Say \nSue Say lived at Greenham for 2 years. On her first evening there\, she heard a woman talking to a soldier on the other side of the fence. It was that powerful conversation that kept her at the camp\, protesting nuclear missiles but also exploring the multitudes of different ways to be a woman by meeting and talking to “many shades of women”. Sue went to prison many times\, took the government to court for illegal strip-searches and won\, changing the law in the process. At Green Man\, she will be talking about her soon to be published book and inviting you to join her in making friendship bracelets. \nCarolyn Francis \nCarolyn lived at Greenham in a hollowed-out holly tree from Summer 1984. She became a Buddhist at Greenham and the personal impact of her time there changed the course of her life. \nCarolyn is a well known for her research\, composition\, performance and teaching of Cumbrian fiddle and border bagpipe tunes. She is currently focussing on expressing the relationship between traditional music\, place and landscape\, and reaching new audiences in order to expand the community playing\, enjoying and participating in this music. \nPearl Love \nAlongside song writing and performing\, Pearl is a workshop facilitator\, harmony sharer and choir leader. Pearl grew up around group singing and has always felt the power of singing with others and the community it can create. It is her belief that everyone should have access to the uplifting joy and sense of connection that singing in harmony can bring. Pearl teaches harmony songs and rounds\, from a range of traditions\, in a friendly and lightly humorous way. Each song is taught by ear\, so no experience is needed\, and every voice is welcome! \nYou can also catch Pearl leading Mindful Music workshops in the Little Folk Field this weekend. \nPixie Taylor \nPixie went to Greenham when she was 18\, living at Green Gate from 1985-86 and returning to live at Blue Gate from 1991-1994. She has been a Forest School leader since 2002 and feels passionately that is vital for us to enable and encourage children today to connect with the natural environment. Pixie will be teaching people how to build their own Greenham-style camp\, using natural materials and simple techniques. \nJill ‘Ray’ Raymond \nRay lived at Greenham for around 12 years and she was part of a core group who stayed and took part in actions such as the famous protest when they danced on the silos on New Years Eve and cut through miles of fencing. \nDrop-in for some craftivism with Ray who will be running practical web weaving sessions and sharing the history of Web Weaving as feminist protest. \nAnd more TBC. Free to festival ticket holders.

SUMMARY:Greenham Today: Lessons and Legacies for Feminist Protest
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a lunchtime talk at the Goethe-Institut! Together with Catherine Eschle\, our director Rebecca Mordan will talk about the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp (1981-2000) then and now\, and its lessons and legacies for feminist protest. \nGreenham Common Women’s Peace Camp was the largest and most sustained feminist protest in modern British history. For this Talk at It event\, Rebecca Mordan will join Catherine Eschle of the University of Strathclyde to reflect on Greenham’s relevance for contemporary feminism. \nWe invite you to a lively conversation\, ranging from the politics of erasure and remembering to strategies for archiving feminism in the past and present\, and from the changing forms of feminist protest since Greenham to the continued urgency of resisting the tentacles of patriarchy\, militarism and environmental destruction. \nThis event is part of the Goethe-Institut’s regular thematic keynote talks of 15-30 minutes designed to encourage open and frank discourse. Join us for your lunch break to be inspired\, share ideas and meet likeminded people. Light refreshments will be provided. \nThe talk will also be livestreamed on Instagram – join us online if you can’t come in person!

SUMMARY:Common Ground: A Greenham Common Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join us for a cabaret night at The Poly filled with song\, stories and solidarity. \nA night filled with creativity and performance\, Scary Little Girls and Greenham Women Everywhere invite you to celebrate the stories of the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp. \nPerformers from across Cornwall will share the stories of the women who were at Greenham Common. See some feats of acrobatics and balance as our troupe show the techniques used to climb over the fence and break into the base. We’re celebrating the creativity used in the art of peaceful protest. \nMake a radical postcard with Caroline Wilkins from Redruth Press\, join us for rousing performances of protest songs and celebrate the stories of these powerful women who worked together for the common good. \nTickets are £9 and are available to book here! \nThis event is part of the Mayven Festival Winter 2023 in Cornwall. SUMMARY:Common Ground: Film Screening And Greenham Women Memory Share
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to be working in partnership with The Theatre Chipping Norton on this fantastic event in February 2024. Join us as Common Ground explores the stories and significance of the Greenham Common protest camps. \nWomen Against the Bomb is Sonia Gonzalez’s prize-winning look at the impact of the Greenham Women\, the first all-female peace camp\, reflected through interviews and footage from women who took action and never looked back. Find out more about the Greenham Common Peace Camp as we explore its impact 40 years on. \nJoin our own Artistic Director\, Greenham child and author of ‘Out of the Darkness’ Rebecca Mordan and other Greenham Women for a Q&A session after the film to hear about their first-hand experiences of Greenham Common. We’d also love to hear your stories of how Greenham impacted you or your memories of the Greenham Common Peace Camps. \nBook your tickets here! \nCommon Ground is a series of events made possible thanks to support from Heritage Fund as part of a project to map the impact of the Greenham Common Peace Camp on the women who inhabited it and the communities they returned to.
